Hines Ward

Hines Ward is recognized as one of the most complete wide receivers in NFL history and a two-time Super Bowl champion. Selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the NFL Draft, Ward played his entire professional career with the franchise, becoming the team's all-time leader in receptions, receiving yardage, and touchdown receptions. He leads the Steelers in catches with 1,000, yards with 12,083, and receiving touchdowns with 85. Ward is often cited among the top wide receivers of the 2000s and played a significant role in the Steelers' success during that era.

Ward's career highlight occurred in Super Bowl XL, where he recorded five receptions for 123 yards and caught a 43-yard touchdown pass from Antwaan Randle El, contributing to the Steelers' 21–10 victory over the Seattle Seahawks and earning the game's MVP Award. Ward became the first Korean American to win the Super Bowl MVP Award. He was selected to four Pro Bowls and added 88 receptions for 1,181 yards and 10 touchdowns in 18 playoff games. Known for his blocking ability, Ward contributed to the Steelers' running game and helped create opportunities for teammates. His physical style of play led to the implementation of the "Hines Ward Rule," which prohibits certain types of blindside blocks.

Off the field, Ward has been active in advocacy, particularly for multiracial Korean children. He organized meetings to support these children and promote social and political reform. Ward established the Hines Ward Helping Hands Foundation to assist mixed-race children in South Korea and was awarded honorary citizenship by the Seoul Metropolitan Government for his efforts to reduce discrimination. He was appointed to the President's Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

After retiring from football, Ward joined NBC Sports as a football analyst, including work on the Sunday Night Football pregame show "Football Night in America." He later became a studio analyst and correspondent for CNN and HLN. Ward and his partner Kym Johnson won the twelfth season of the TV dance competition "Dancing with the Stars," becoming the first active NFL player to win the show. He also appeared as a member of the fictional Gotham Rogues football team in the film "The Dark Knight Rises." Ward served as an honorary ambassador for the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Ward transitioned to coaching, beginning as an offensive assistant for the New York Jets, working with wide receivers. He later became a head coach in the XFL, leading the San Antonio Brahmas, and was named wide receivers coach for the Arizona State Sun Devils. A perennial Pro Football Hall of Fame semifinalist, Ward has advanced to the semifinalist stage for the Hall of Fame Class of 2026, marking his tenth year earning that distinction and standing as the only Steelers player among the 26 semifinalists. Ward's career spans professional football, sports broadcasting, advocacy, and coaching, reflecting his ongoing influence in the football community.
