Greg Shaffer

Greg Shaffer is a former FBI special agent and tactical operator recognized for his expertise in terrorism prevention, personal security, and active shooter response. Shaffer began his professional career as a line officer in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving for 11 years and commanding the Coast Guard Cutter Point Steele. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in management from the United States Coast Guard Academy and a master's certificate in strategic intelligence from the Australian Institute of Police Management.

After graduating from the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, Shaffer was assigned to the FBI's San Francisco office, where he joined the Multi-Agency Drug Task Force and became a member of the San Francisco FBI SWAT Team. During his 20-year tenure with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, he spent six years on the Hostage Rescue Team, conducting tactical operations in locations including Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, the Philippines, Indonesia, East Africa, and the United States. While on the Hostage Rescue Team, Shaffer received advanced training and worked alongside Department of Defense Special Mission Units and foreign counterterrorism teams.

Shaffer's assignments included supervising the Dallas FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force, working on a drug and gang task force in the San Francisco field office, serving at the National Counter Terrorism Center, and becoming the first FBI legal attaché assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Budapest, Hungary. He led security planning for major events such as the Super Bowl in Dallas, coordinating with 73 agencies and 5,400 security personnel, and supervised security for the NBA Finals, NBA All-Star Game, MLB World Series, and other high-profile events considered potential terrorism targets.

Shaffer is an FBI-certified crisis negotiator, firearms instructor, defensive tactics instructor, advanced tactical instructor, close-quarter battle instructor, rappel master, and paramedic. He is a recipient of the Arlington Police Department's Medal of Merit and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence Award for Investigative Excellence.

Following his FBI career, Shaffer founded Shaffer Security Group, a consulting firm providing risk management, active shooter response training, executive protection, corporate security assessments, and tactical instruction to corporate clients, high-profile individuals, and major events worldwide. He is the author of the book "Stay Safe – Security Secrets for Today's Dangerous World" and host of Investigation Discovery Channel's police drama "Body Cam – Behind the Badge." Shaffer's expertise in law enforcement, counterterrorism, and security has been featured on NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, Newsmax, i24, the Washington Post, the BBC, and other major outlets.
