Glenda Baskin Glover

Dr. Glenda Baskin Glover is an educator, attorney, and certified public accountant recognized for her leadership in American higher education and civic engagement. Glover served as the eighth and first female president of Tennessee State University, a public historically Black university in Nashville, Tennessee. She holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Tennessee State University, a Master of Business Administration from Clark Atlanta University, a Ph.D. in business administration from George Washington University, and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University, making her one of only two African American women in the nation to hold the Ph.D.-CPA-JD combination.

Prior to her presidency at Tennessee State University, Glover held academic and professional leadership roles, including Chairperson of the Department of Accounting at the Howard University School of Business and Dean of the College of Business at Jackson State University. At Jackson State University, she led the college through the accreditation process and implemented the nation's first Ph.D. program in business at a historically Black college or university. Glover has also served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of an engineering firm, tax manager at a public utility company, and accountant with a Big Four CPA firm. She has served on the boards of Pinnacle Financial Partners, First Guaranty Bancshares, The Lenox Group, and Citigroup-Student Loan Corporation, often as chair of the audit committee or financial expert.

During her tenure at Tennessee State University, Glover oversaw consecutive years of record enrollment, guided the institution through the pandemic, and secured more than $100 million in research awards. She expanded the university's endowment from $45 million to over $110 million and advanced its research classification from R3 to R2, positioning the institution toward R1 status as recognized by the Carnegie Foundation. Under her leadership, the university's academic offerings grew to 45 bachelor's degrees, 24 master's degrees, and seven doctorate degrees.

Glover's influence extends beyond higher education. She served as international president and CEO of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, leading an organization of nearly 320,000 members and more than 1,000 chapters worldwide. She was appointed vice chair of the President's Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities and serves on the board of directors of EMILYs List, a national organization focused on electing women to public office and expanding diverse leadership.

A prolific scholar on business and public affairs, Glover is the author of more than 100 articles and papers and is recognized as an expert on corporate governance. She is a frequent keynote speaker on business and economics at national conventions, professional associations, and community groups. Her honors include the Thurgood Marshall College Fund Education Leadership Award as HBCU President of the Year, inclusion in Essence Magazine's "Woke 100" list of influential African American women, and recognition as one of the "Top 25 Women in Higher Education" by Diverse Issues in Higher Education.
