Gina Battye

Gina Battye is the founder and CEO of the Psychological Safety Institute and a leading authority on workplace psychological safety. As an LGBT+ consultant, keynote speaker, and psychological safety expert, Battye brings more than two decades of experience in transforming organizational approaches to diversity, belonging, and employee wellbeing. She serves as a psychological safety consultant and trainer for multinational corporations, Fortune 500 companies, and organizations in television, film, radio, and the global press.

Battye began her career as a teacher working with individuals charged with violent crimes in West Yorkshire, England. After a stalking incident at work, she changed jobs but encountered harassment and intimidation related to her sexual orientation in her new workplace. When Battye reported the bullying to human resources, she was advised not to pursue the case to avoid drawing attention to her sexual orientation. These experiences motivated Battye to focus on cultivating psychologically safe workplaces and led to the development of the 5 Pillars of Psychological Safety.

Through her work with the 5 Pillars and the Hierarchy of Psychological Safety, Battye has influenced approaches to inclusion, belonging, and organizational culture. Her methodologies are implemented by multinational corporations around the world. At the Psychological Safety Institute, Battye and her team work to challenge and transform workplace attitudes and cultures, advocating for the integration of psychological safety into workplace legislation. The Institute’s methodologies, including the 5 Pillars and the Diagnostic Tool Lux, are recognized for their effectiveness in fostering inclusive workplaces. The Institute’s collaboration with University of Cambridge Judge Business School provides access to a team of social scientists who offer insights and analysis to diagnose workplace issues.

Battye is the author of "The Authentic Organization: How to Create a Psychologically Safe Workplace," a finalist for the Business Book Awards. She has developed CPD-accredited training programs designed to empower individuals and leaders to drive organizational change. Battye’s influence extends to global media and policy; she is a regular commentator for ITV News and has advised on BBC film sets using her Playing It Gay guidelines to support accurate LGBT+ representation.
