Geof Manthorne

Geof Manthorne is a cake artist, television personality, and creative craftsman best known for his work on the Food Network reality series "Ace of Cakes." Widely recognized for his dry, sardonic sense of humor and understated wit, Manthorne became a fan favorite for his conversational style and distinctive perspective, which viewers often compared to watching the show alongside a close friend.

Chef Duff Goldman’s new show, "Super Mega Cakes," features his longtime collaborator Geof Manthorne, who is still creates special projects for Duff's Charm City Cakes bakery.

Manthorne gained national visibility as a star of "Ace of Cakes," where he helped showcase the unconventional artistry of Charm City Cakes. He later contributed as an author and consultant to "Ace of Cakes: Inside the World of Charm City Cakes," offering insight into the creative philosophy and technical craftsmanship behind the bakery’s celebrated designs. Following the success of the series, he continued appearing in Food Network programming, competing alongside Duff Goldman in the Halloween-themed Haunted House edition of "Food Network Challenge" and serving as a judge for the Extreme Cakes competition with Goldman and Mary Alice Fallon-Yeskey.

Before entering the world of televised baking, Manthorne worked as an architectural model builder, a background that shaped his meticulous approach to cake construction. His training helped him develop a signature decorating style that blends structural precision with imaginative design. As Executive Sous Chef and a project lead at Charm City Cakes, Manthorne specializes in complex replica projects. His portfolio includes highly detailed cake models of landmarks such as the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Taj Mahal, and numerous structures considered iconic to Baltimore residents.

Under the creative leadership of Manthorne and Chef Duff Goldman, Charm City Cakes evolved from a small Baltimore rowhouse kitchen into an internationally recognized bakery known for ambitious sculptural cakes and playful design concepts. Manthorne grew up in southeastern Pennsylvania and relocated to Baltimore in the early 1990s. Outside of baking, he pursues music as a singer-songwriter and plays trumpet in a Fela Kuti tribute band, reflecting his broad artistic interests beyond the culinary arts.
