Garry Hunt

Dr. Garry E. Hunt, OBE, is a British astrophysicist, space scientist, and business leader known for his contributions to planetary exploration and science communication. He earned his PhD in mathematical physics from the University of London and went on to hold research positions at leading institutions including University College London and the University of Oxford. In 1972, he was selected to join NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where he became the only UK scientist on the imaging team for the Voyager missions—one of the most significant exploratory programs in the history of space science.

Over the course of his scientific career, Hunt worked on major missions including Voyager and Viking, contributing to groundbreaking discoveries about the outer planets and deep space. Beyond his research, he became widely recognized as a communicator of science, presenting and commenting on space exploration for the BBC and other international media outlets for more than two decades. His ability to translate complex scientific ideas for public audiences helped broaden global interest in astronomy and planetary science.

In addition to his academic and media work, Hunt built a successful career in business and advisory roles, serving on the boards of numerous technology and consulting firms and advising governments and global corporations on innovation and strategy. He has also been active as a speaker and author, publishing extensively and engaging audiences worldwide on topics ranging from space exploration to climate science and technological change.
