Fanshen Cox

Fanshen Cox is a playwright, actor, producer, and educator whose career centers on using storytelling to drive social change. Cox is the founder of TruJuLo Productions, a media company focused on developing content that promotes truth, justice, and love. TruJuLo produces movies, TV shows, web projects, podcasts, and theater, with an emphasis on supporting underrepresented voices and advancing racial equity in media.

Cox is recognized as the writer, producer, and performer of "One Drop of Love," a one-woman show that explores the intersections of race, class, and gender. The production has toured nationally and internationally and is produced by Cox, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon. The play received Best Non-Fiction Script from United Solo Theatre Festival, and the film adaptation earned Best Documentary Film at Roxbury International Film Festival and was an official selection at San Francisco Black Film Festival and Black International Film Festival.

Cox served as senior vice president of impact and development at Pearl Street Films, where she co-authored the Inclusion Rider. This policy, adopted by industry leaders such as Michael B. Jordan, AMC Studios, and Fifth Season, aims to ensure diverse hiring practices in entertainment. The Inclusion Rider has been implemented across Hollywood, as well as in the fashion and music industries. Cox also contributed to systemic equity in the entertainment industry as the DEIA initiative manager for the California Film Commission's Tax Credit Program.

Cox co-created and co-hosts the Webby-nominated podcast "Sista Brunch," which highlights Black women and non-binary individuals in media and entertainment. She serves on the board of The Annenberg Inclusion Initiative and the Kennedy Center's Turnaround Arts Equity Advisory Committee. Cox's work has been featured in New York Times and on NPR, with op-eds published in Blavity, Shondaland, and The Lily. She has received the Peace Corps' Franklin H. Williams Award, scholarships from Peace Corps Fellows and Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and distinguished alumni honors from CSULA and Teachers College, Columbia University. Cox also holds an honorary MFA in producing from New York Film Academy. Her career spans performance, policy, and production, positioning her as a leading voice at the intersection of art and social justice.
