Esha Chhabra

Esha Chhabra is an environmental journalist and author whose work focuses on business, sustainability, and global development. Chhabra has reported on development, environmental issues, and business for more than a decade, covering the rise of purpose-driven enterprises. Her reporting has appeared in the New York Times, Time, Economist, Guardian, Forbes, The Washington Post, Fast Company, and Wired, among other publications. Chhabra is a graduate of Georgetown University and the London School of Economics, bringing both academic rigor and field reporting to her journalism.

Chhabra’s editorial approach centers on solutions-oriented storytelling in the sustainability and social impact sectors. She investigates companies that operate with environmental and social responsibility, highlighting businesses that avoid greenwashing and prioritize ethical practices. Her work often features social entrepreneurs who adapt business models to address environmental and social challenges, providing in-depth coverage of global supply chains and sustainable business practices.

Chhabra is the author of the book "Working to Restore," published by Beacon Press/Penguin Random House. In "Working to Restore," she profiles start-ups across nine industries that implement restorative and regenerative business models. The book examines how regenerative businesses go beyond sustainability to restore ecosystems and support human dignity, with examples ranging from female farmers in Ghana to food waste reduction initiatives in the UK. "Working to Restore" received recognition as Best Business Book of the Year at the Tata Lit Fest and was a Non-Obvious Book Award winner.

Chhabra’s journalism has been supported by grants from the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting and fellowships from the UN Foundation and Ford Foundation. These honors underscore the global relevance of her reporting on sustainable business and environmental issues.

Chhabra is also a public speaker, presenting at events such as TEDWomen, B Corp Championship Retreat, Sustainable Brands, TEDxGateway in Mumbai, and Loyola Marymount University. Her TEDWomen talk, "How business can improve the world, not just the bottom line," addressed how regenerative companies can drive change for people and the planet.
