Erin French is a chef, author, and restaurateur best known for redefining destination dining through deeply seasonal, locally rooted cuisine in rural Maine.

Raised in Freedom, Maine, she began cooking in her family’s diner, where she developed an intuitive, hands-on approach to food shaped more by experience than formal culinary training. After early career setbacks and personal challenges, she rebuilt her path in the culinary world with a focus on simplicity, hospitality, and place-based cooking.

Her signature achievement is The Lost Kitchen, a 40-seat restaurant housed in a restored 19th-century mill. The restaurant became nationally known not through traditional marketing, but through an unusual reservation system: guests submit postcards, and tables are assigned by lottery. This approach, combined with hyper-local sourcing and a constantly changing menu, turned The Lost Kitchen into one of the most sought-after dining experiences in the United States.

French’s cooking style emphasizes seasonality, foraging, and relationships with local farmers and producers.
