Eric Millegan is an American actor whose career spans television, film, and theater. Millegan studied acting at Interlochen Arts Camp at the Interlochen Center for the Arts before pursuing musical theater at the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He began his musical theater career at age 7 in the Eugene Opera production of Menotti's "Amahl and the Night Visitors," and continued with the company in productions including "Madame Butterfly," "La Bohème," "Carmen," and "Hansel and Gretel."
Primarily known for his theater work, Millegan has Broadway and Off-Broadway credits, including revivals of "Hair" and "Jesus Christ Superstar," as well as the male lead in "Harold and Maude: The Musical." His New York theater credits include the Broadway revival of "Jesus Christ Superstar," the Encores presentation of "Hair" at City Center—where he performed the "Aquarius" solo—and the New York premiere of "Dead Man Walking" at Lincoln Center. His regional theater experience includes roles at Guthrie Theater, Cincinnati Playhouse In the Park, the Repertory Theater of St. Louis, and Paper Mill Playhouse, where he starred as Harold opposite Academy Award winner Estelle Parsons' Maude in the world premiere of Tom Jones and Joseph Thalken's "Harold & Maude: The Musical."
Millegan is recognized for his television role as graduate student Zack Addy on the crime procedural "Bones." As the right-hand man of Dr. Temperance Brennan, Addy provided comic relief during the show's first three seasons, until a major plot twist shifted his role. Millegan appeared as a main character throughout seasons 1 to 3 and made guest appearances in subsequent seasons, including a recurring role in the series' final season. In the penultimate episode, "The Day in the Life," the character Zack is exonerated for the murder that led to his incarceration.
In film, Millegan starred as Ed Simone in "On_Line," an official selection at the Berlin International Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and Cinequest Film Festival, which won the Best Narrative Feature Award. He also appeared in guest roles on television dramas such as the Sidney Lumet-created courtroom drama "100 Centre Street," "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," and Larry David's "Curb Your Enthusiasm." Out magazine recognized Millegan as the "Hottest Up-and-Coming Openly Gay Actor of 2003."
Millegan publicly shared his experience with bipolar disorder in The Huffington Post and has credited the professional structure of working as a series regular on "Bones" as an aid in managing his condition. His openness about mental health has contributed to public discussions on the topic. After his time on "Bones," Millegan returned to live theater and cabaret, continuing to work across multiple disciplines in the entertainment industry.
