
Emily Kasriel is a journalist, editor, and media executive whose career at BBC spanned more than two decades. Kasriel led a range of editorial projects for BBC, reporting and producing across five continents. She created, ran, and presented "The Forum," a weekly ideas show on BBC World Service, after leading the Arts and Religion departments. Kasriel holds master's degrees from the University of Oxford and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, earned through a Rotary Fellowship.
As head of editorial partnerships and special projects at BBC World Service Group, Kasriel established and directed several projects, including the BBC Komla Dumor Award for African Journalists, the Chevening Partnership, and the Solutions-Focused Journalism project across BBC News. She also led BBC's "Crossing Divides" season, which focused on stories about bridging divides across politics, class, background, age, and geography. In partnership with the British Council, Kasriel led a Deep Listening training project involving 1,000 young people in 119 countries, as well as participants at the BBC 5 Live Crossing Divides Festival and young citizens in Lebanon.
Kasriel developed the Deep Listening approach as a senior visiting research fellow at King's College Policy Institute in London and previously as a practitioner in residence at the London School of Economics. She draws on experience as an executive coach accredited with the Association for Coaching and as a workplace mediator. Kasriel has written about Deep Listening for Stanford Social Innovation Review, and her work has appeared in The Guardian, The Telegraph, and Financial Times. She also chairs panels and discussions at conferences and events globally.
Kasriel is the author of "Deep Listening," published by HarperCollins in the United Kingdom and United States. The book explores how moving from surface-level exchanges to deep listening can enrich relationships, enhance leadership effectiveness, and strengthen communities. She delivered a TED talk on Deep Listening at the TED conference in Vancouver. The book has been recognized as a top business book by Financial Times and featured in McKinsey Talks, the Next Big Idea Book Club, MSNBC, CNBC, Forbes, and BigThink. Kasriel is a visiting scholar at Columbia University and has served as a senior adviser to the Skoll Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship and as a visiting fellow at Said Business School at the University of Oxford.
