Ellin Oliver Keene

Ellin Oliver Keene is a prominent figure in American literacy education, recognized for her contributions to reading comprehension, student engagement, and professional learning. Keene has served as a classroom teacher, staff developer, nonprofit director, and adjunct professor of reading and writing, combining classroom experience with institutional leadership in the field of literacy education.

Keene co-authored "Mosaic of Thought: The Power of Comprehension Strategy Instruction" with Susan Zimmermann, a book that became widely known for its explicit approach to strategy-based comprehension instruction. "Mosaic of Thought" is regarded as a landmark text in literacy education, influencing the widespread adoption and adaptation of comprehension strategy instruction and expanding the research base in reading comprehension.

Building on this foundation, Keene authored additional works, including "To Understand: New Horizons in Reading Comprehension," "Talk About Understanding: Rethinking Classroom Talk to Enhance Understanding," and "Engaging Children: Igniting a Drive for Deeper Learning."
