Elle Moxley

Elle Moxley, a co-founder of the Black Lives Matter Global Network, has been an integral part of the organization as a strategic partner and organizing coordinator. In addition to her role in the Black Lives Matter movement, Moxley is the founder and was the first executive director of The Marsha P. Johnson Institute, an organization dedicated to uplifting Black trans women. Moxley's passion for storytelling and advocacy is also evident in her work in film, having directed and featured in the 2022 short documentary film "Black Beauty."

Moxley's influence extends beyond her activism and film work. She has been a voice on several popular media platforms, including "Democracy Now!" and "All Things Considered," where she shared insights on the shooting of Tamir Rice in 2015. Her insights and contributions have not gone unnoticed. Moxley was recognized in the 2017 Essence "Woke 100 Women," and also made the list of "The Root 100 Most Influential African Americans" in the same year.

In addition to her public activism, Moxley has been a vocal advocate against white supremacy and transphobia. She has publicly addressed and challenged transphobic comments in the media, further solidifying her position as a leader in advocating for transgender rights. Moxley, an African-American transgender woman, writer, and alumna of Central State University, has shared her personal journey, including her name change following her transition, in the San Francisco Examiner. She continues to work on issues such as police reform, racial justice, and LGBTQ rights, further asserting her influence in the discourse on racial and transgender rights in America.
