Elise Neal

Elise Neal is an American actress and producer whose career spans more than three decades across film, television, and stage. Neal began her journey in the performing arts as a dancer, competing in state-level dance competitions before moving to New York City. There, she secured roles in musical theater and toured internationally with various companies. She made her Broadway debut in the all-Black revival of the Gershwin musical "Oh, Kay!" before transitioning to on-screen work. Neal appeared in an episode of "Law & Order" and held a recurring role on the ABC soap opera Loving. Her portrayal of a young breast cancer patient on Chicago Hope led to a regular role as Lt. J.J. Fredricks on the NBC science fiction series seaQuest DSV.

Neal gained recognition with roles in "Rosewood," "Money Talks," and "Scream 2." Her performance in "Scream 2," directed by Wes Craven, marked her entry into high-profile studio productions. She later appeared in the independent film "Restaurant." Neal returned to television to play Yvonne Hughley in the ABC/UPN sitcom "The Hughleys," earning two NAACP Image Award nominations for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series.

Neal's film work continued to receive critical attention, including her performance in "Hustle & Flow," which earned a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. She portrayed Gladys Knight in the biopic "Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B" and played Kathryn Munson in the superhero film "Logan." Neal also appeared in the television series "Into the Dark." "Logan" became her third film to reach number one at the box office, grossing more than $400 million worldwide.

In addition to acting, Neal has established herself as a producer and creative entrepreneur, developing multimedia projects such as a reality show based on her R&B group Assorted Flavors, a fitness and lifestyle brand, and several feature projects. She received the African American Women in Cinema Trailblazer Award, recognizing her contributions to film and television and her impact on representation of Black women in Hollywood. Neal is also known for her advocacy for diversity in the entertainment industry and her mentorship of emerging performers.
