Drew Robinson

Drew Robinson is a former Major League Baseball utility player and mental health advocate known for his work in suicide prevention and mental wellness. Drafted out of high school by the Texas Rangers, Robinson played 12 seasons of professional baseball, competing in both the minor and major leagues with the Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals. Despite his athletic achievements, Robinson faced significant mental health challenges, including depression, which led to a suicide attempt.

After surviving a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Robinson underwent multiple surgeries, resulting in the loss of his right eye, as well as his sense of taste and smell. He returned to professional baseball with the San Francisco Giants organization, playing for the Sacramento River Cats and hitting three home runs during his comeback. Robinson's story was featured in the ESPN documentary "E60," which focused on mental health awareness and reducing stigma in sports.

Following his retirement from baseball, Robinson joined the San Francisco Giants in a dedicated mental health advocacy role, supporting players, coaches, and staff. He has contributed to initiatives promoting youth mental health and suicide prevention, collaborating with local partners to host events and develop educational programs.

Robinson co-founded the Better Universe Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on ending mental health stigma, increasing awareness of available support, and expanding opportunities for self-growth. The foundation works with partners across healthcare, sports, entertainment, education, and other sectors to improve mental health approaches and empower leaders to foster supportive environments.

As a keynote speaker, Robinson addresses audiences nationwide on topics such as suicide prevention, mental health awareness, and the importance of open communication. He emphasizes the value of honesty and support in overcoming mental health challenges, advocating for a redefined understanding of toughness in sports and beyond. Robinson's message, "Strength isn't only physical," continues to resonate with individuals and organizations committed to mental wellness and suicide prevention.
