Dr. Yael Danieli

Dr. Yael Danieli is a renowned clinical psychologist, victimologist, and traumatologist, widely recognized for her groundbreaking work in trauma, human rights, and multigenerational legacies of victimization. She is the co-founder and Director of the Group Project for Holocaust Survivors and their Children, established in 1975 as the first program of its kind dedicated to therapeutic support and research for survivors and their descendants.

She is the Founder and Executive Director of the International Center for the Study, Prevention and Treatment of Multigenerational Legacies of Trauma (ICMGLT), where she developed the Danieli Inventory for Multigenerational Legacies of Trauma. This tool has been used in international research to better understand how trauma is transmitted across generations.

Dr. Danieli was a founding director and past president of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS), where she helped shape global approaches to trauma care and education. She has served as a senior representative to the United Nations for several NGOs, contributing to policy on victims’ rights, reparative justice, and post-conflict support.

In 2008, she was appointed Advisor on Victims of Terrorism by the UN Secretary-General, where she led efforts including the first UN Symposium on Supporting Victims of Terrorism. She has also consulted for the International Criminal Court, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and various United Nations agencies.

Dr. Danieli is the author and editor of seminal works including International Handbook of Multigenerational Legacies of Trauma and The Trauma of Terrorism: An International Handbook of Sharing Knowledge and Shared Care. Her work has been translated into multiple languages and has had a global impact on trauma studies and victim advocacy.

Among her many honors are the Lifetime Achievement Award from the ISTSS and the Award for Lifetime Achievement in Trauma Psychology from the American Psychological Association, recognizing her enduring influence and leadership in the field.
