Dr. Steve Albrecht

Dr. Steve Albrecht is recognized for his expertise in workplace and school violence prevention, drawing on extensive law enforcement experience and academic credentials. Albrecht holds a Bachelor of Arts in English, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, a Master of Arts in Security Management, and a Doctor of Business Administration. He is board certified in human resources, security, employee coaching, and threat assessment.

Albrecht retired from the San Diego Police Department, where he served as a full-time officer and later as a reserve sergeant, including six years in the Domestic Violence Unit, handling more than 1,500 cases. This direct experience informs his practical approach to organizational safety and threat management.

Specializing in threat assessment, threat management, Threat Assessment Team training, site security surveys, workplace and school violence awareness, and crisis response programs, Albrecht works with private-sector firms, aerospace, utilities, healthcare, municipal government, library systems, banks, K-12 schools, and higher education institutions. He co-wrote "Ticking Bombs," one of the first business books on workplace violence, and has conducted in-depth research, including interviews with workplace murderers in prison. Albrecht is frequently featured as a keynote speaker and conference presenter and has appeared in the media discussing workplace security and safety issues. He was featured in the BBC documentary "Going Postal."

Albrecht has served as a Course Leader for the American Management Association, teaching supervisory seminars, and as an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California, Cal State Fullerton, Brandman University, San Diego State University, and National University. He is a past president of the San Diego Chapter of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals.

In addition to his work in corporate and educational environments, Albrecht has developed a specialty in library safety and security. He has trained thousands of library employees in service, safety, and security, working with city, county, K-12, college, university, special, and law libraries across the United States. His books "Library Security: Better Communication, Safer Facilities" and "The Safe Library: Keeping Users, Staff, and Collections Secure" address best practices for library safety. With a catalog of more than 25 books on business, security, and law enforcement, Albrecht provides guidance for organizations seeking to enhance workplace safety and security.
