Dr. Sherice Janaye Nelson

Dr. Sherice Janaye Nelson is a scholar, author, crisis management consultant, and keynote speaker whose work focuses on political science, Black political life, and organizational leadership. Nelson earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in political science from Howard University, specializing in international relations, Black politics, and American government. She also holds a Master of Public Administration from University of the District of Columbia and graduated magna cum laude with a dual degree in history and English from Stillman College. Nelson's educational background is rooted in Historically Black Colleges and Universities, which remain central to her professional and academic interests.

Nelson is the founder of Dr. Janaye Executes, a consulting firm centered on speaking, research, and higher education expertise. She has taught at University of California, Berkeley and other institutions in the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles. Nelson served as the inaugural director of the Jewel Limar Prestage Public Policy, Polling, and Research Center at Southern University and A&M College, where she led mixed-methods research focused on Black Americans. She is also the executive director of the Black Leadership Roundtable and serves on the advisory board for the Center for Racial Justice at Dillard University.

As a Black Diaspora scholar, Nelson examines the political, social, and economic effects of chattel slavery in Western democracies. She introduced the term Insulated Blackness, describing African Americans' separation from Black political identity due to infrequent experiences of racial discrimination. Nelson's published works include "The Congressional Black Caucus: Fifty Years of Fighting for Equality," which analyzes the Black legislative experience and the role of members as moral agents within a racialized governance structure, and "Visibly Invisible: Black Women of the Congressional Black Caucus," which explores the erasure of Black women in legislative efforts for democracy.

Nelson's media presence began with an appearance on "The Daily Drum" with Harold T. Fisher, where she provided analysis on the Republican National Convention. Since then, she has contributed as a political analyst across various media platforms, offering research-driven insight on elections, democratic institutions, governance, and Black political life. Nelson is recognized for translating academic research into accessible public commentary, contributing to civic and political conversations.

Nelson has received recognition for her work in education and leadership, including the Anna Julia Cooper Teacher of the Year Award from the National Conference of Black Political Scientists and a ranking among the Top 50 Women Leaders of Louisiana by Women We Admire. Her expertise spans organizational crisis management, democratic institutions, and Black political identity, combining academic scholarship with practical consulting experience.
