Dr. Krystal Redman

Dr. Krystal Redman (DrPH, MHA) is a public health leader, executive, author, and speaker whose career centers on reproductive justice, health equity, and the liberation of Black, queer, and trans communities. Redman brings nearly 20 years of experience in direct care, nonprofit and healthcare leadership, and the design of equity-centered initiatives. Redman holds a Bachelor of Science in sociology from the University of California, Riverside, a Master of Health Administration from the University of Southern California, and a Doctor of Public Health from Loma Linda University.

Before entering movement work, Redman built a foundation in public health administration. Prior to serving as executive director of SPARK Reproductive Justice NOW!, Redman was senior project director and family planning director for maternal and child health at the Georgia Department of Public Health, working to expand healthcare access for individuals and families across Georgia. Redman has also held chief leadership roles in organizations serving under-resourced youth and women, and served as chief of operations and clinical director for a California-based system of 24 ambulatory care addiction treatment and prevention programs. This experience across clinical, governmental, and nonprofit sectors informs Redman's approach to addressing systemic health inequities.

As executive director of SPARK Reproductive Justice NOW!, Redman is recognized as a leading voice at the intersection of public health and social justice in the South. SPARK's mission is to build new leadership, change culture, and advance knowledge in Georgia and the South to ensure individuals and communities have the resources and power to make sustainable decisions about their bodies, gender, sexualities, and lives. In this role, Redman organizes with community members, advocates for legislation, and provides trainings and workshops on topics such as Black maternal health, eugenics and population control, reproductive justice, queer liberation, and equitable access to comprehensive care. Redman also serves as an adjunct professor at Emory School of Public Health.

Redman's influence extends to media and education. Redman is the creator and host of "OurPanel TV," a health talk show led by Black women doctors, and founded the Strategy. Equity. Justice. Health Institute and Public Health Strategy Think Tank. As a self-published author, Redman wrote "I Am Amyracle.... and I Was Born Early," a book that tells the story of Amyr, who was born prematurely and overcame significant medical challenges. The book aims to normalize discussions of infant prematurity, high-risk maternal health, and birthing outcomes in Black families, serving as an illustrated health education tool at the intersections of reproductive justice and maternal health outcomes.

Redman brings over 20 years of experience in executive leadership and coaching. As a lecturer and specialist in leadership and organizational development, Redman has contributed to movement strategy and public speaking, particularly in Black liberation, queer liberation, maternal and child health, and reproductive and sexual health and justice. Redman's areas of expertise include LGBTQ rights, youth engagement, voter engagement, contraceptive equity, mental and behavioral health equity, public health policy, and healthcare access, making Redman a knowledgeable voice for audiences in academia, advocacy, and healthcare.
