Dr. Gary Small

Gary Small, M.D., is Professor of Psychiatry at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, the Parlow-Solomon Professor on Aging at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and Director of the UCLA Center on Aging. Small has studied and developed lifestyle and memory training programs for improving brain health, which are available throughout the US in senior centers, community hospitals, and assisted living facilities. He has invented the first brain scan that allows doctors to see the physical evidence of brain aging and Alzheimer's disease in living people.

Dr. Small has authored over 450 scientific articles, books and book chapters and received numerous awards and honors. He leads an internationally acclaimed research team that has been at the forefront of discoveries on detection and prevention of brain aging and memory loss.

He lectures and consults extensively throughout the world, and has been a frequent guest on "20/20," "Good Morning America," "The Today Show," CNN, NBC Nightly News and CBS News. Dr. Small's discoveries and opinions have been featured in numerous publications including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Time, Newsweek, USA Today, Science, and The New England Journal of Medicine.

In his book "The Memory Bible," Dr. Small shows readers how to create an individualized memory fitness program using his innovative strategies, such as memory training, mental aerobics, a healthy brain diet, stress reduction and a variety of other lifestyle choices. "The Memory Bible" also explains how scientists can now detect and observe brain aging that surprisingly begins as early as our twenties.

Dr. Small's tenet is that it's never too early, and more importantly, never too late, to start your memory fitness program. Dr. Small shows us how we can improve our memory performance immediately and stave off, possibly even prevent future memory decline, keeping our brains young and healthy for the rest of our lives.
