Dr. Frederick V. Engram Jr.

Dr. Frederick V. Engram Jr. is a scholar, DEI speaker, and author whose work focuses on race, higher education, and social justice. Engram applies critical race theory to examine how African Americans understand their experiences with racism in higher education and the criminal justice system. He holds multiple degrees, including a Doctor of Education in higher education administration from the College of Professional Studies at Northeastern University. His academic appointments have included Michigan State University, the University of Texas at Arlington, Radford University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Northeastern University. Engram serves as an assistant professor of higher education at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Engram's research and commentary appear in Forbes, Diverse Issues in Higher Education, and Blavity, as well as in peer-reviewed journals. His book, "Black Liberation Through Action and Resistance: MOVE," published by Hamilton Books, addresses Black liberation and anti-racism, engaging Black millennials and allies interested in social justice.

As a speaker, Engram is known for addressing issues facing American institutions, including systemic racism and the impact of white supremacy. He has delivered talks at the University of Richmond, North Carolina State University, Johnson C. Smith University, Southern New Hampshire University, American University, Delaware State University, North Hennepin Community College, and the DC Department of Employment Services. He also presented a TEDx Dallas College Talk titled "Black Joy as an Act of Resistance."

Engram's work has been featured on NBC, TMZ, People TV, Tavis Smiley, and Roland Martin. He is a recipient of the Reby Carey Faculty Excellence Award at UT Arlington and has been recognized as an inaugural member of the 40/40 list at Johnson C. Smith University. Engram's scholarship and public engagement challenge institutions and individuals to pursue authentic diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to move beyond performative efforts toward structural change.
