Dr. Ebony Butler

Dr. Ebony Butler is a licensed psychologist, trauma expert, and food relationship strategist whose work focuses on the intersection of mental health, identity, and the ways individuals relate to food and their bodies. Butler is dedicated to supporting women of color in healing and thriving in the areas of trauma and diet recovery. Through her practice, The Center for Creating Change, she serves as a psychologist, food relationship strategist, consultant, speaker, and creator of "My Therapy Cards," providing clients, organizations, and mental health providers with tools to foster meaningful change in their lives and workplaces.

Butler's work as a food relationship strategist emphasizes education and skill-building for developing healthier relationships with food. She assists clients in addressing ineffective thoughts, habits, and behaviors related to food. Her coaching programs are designed to challenge cultural and societal messages that have historically hindered women of color from feeling empowered to care for their bodies. By rejecting practices rooted in diet culture, Butler teaches women to reclaim control over their bodies, health, and food relationships. She also developed "Taking Back My Body" programs, which are online coaching spaces that encourage community engagement and support women in reconnecting with their bodies and building healthier food relationships.

Butler is the author of the book "Food is Not Bae" and host of the podcast of the same name. Both platforms allow her to educate and engage with women on issues affecting their relationships with food and their bodies. The "Food is Not Bae" podcast addresses topics beyond weight loss and diet culture, offering practical guidance to help listeners break free from societal, familial, and cultural messages that contribute to unhealthy food relationships.

Committed to improving access to quality mental health care for Black people and other people of color, Butler created the first self-exploration card deck for Black women and other women of color. She later developed "My Therapy Cards – Teen Edition," the first card deck specifically for Black girls. This edition helps Black girls and other girls of color navigate thoughts, habits, and behaviors that influence their growth and development, while providing language to better understand and communicate their emotional experiences and needs.

As a keynote speaker, Butler addresses topics such as addiction and recovery, diversity and inclusion, mental health, personal growth, psychology, social activism, and women's health. She also speaks on identity development, trauma recovery, self-care, food relationships, and body image. In her consulting work, Butler collaborates with companies and organizations to develop mental health and food relationship programs for staff and employees. She has advocated for psychologists and access to care with the American Psychological Association and Texas Psychological Association on Capitol Hill, establishing herself as a credible voice for mental health equity and empowerment.
