Donna Rice Hughes

Donna Rice Hughes is recognized as a leading voice in online child protection and Internet safety. As president and CEO of Enough Is Enough, Hughes is an Internet safety expert, author, speaker, and producer. Her work has contributed to the development of the Internet safety movement in the United States, focusing on protecting children and families in the digital environment. After a period of personal reflection, Hughes joined Enough Is Enough and advanced to serve as its president and CEO.

Hughes has played a significant role in U.S. efforts to make the Internet safer for children and families, advocating for a collaborative approach among the public, technology industry, and legal community. She supported key legislation such as the Communications Decency Act, Child Online Protection Act, Children's Internet Protection Act, and Child Pornography Prevention Act. Hughes also led the adoption of the Internet industry's "ZERO Tolerance" policy against child pornography, which received endorsements from the White House and Department of Justice. Under her leadership, Enough Is Enough launched the Safe WiFi Campaign, which resulted in major corporations filtering illegal content on public WiFi, and initiated the Children's Internet Safety Presidential Pledge, Governor's Pledge, and State Attorney General Pledge.

Hughes is the author of "Kids Online, Protecting Your Children In Cyberspace" and "The Internet Pornography Pandemic: The Largest Unregulated Social Experiment in Human History." She co-wrote the story for the season finale of the TV series "Touched By an Angel," which addressed online sexual predators and Internet safety. Her TED Talk, "Imagine what a safer Internet could look like if we all do our part," addresses the responsibilities of technology companies, government, and the adult entertainment industry in protecting children online.

Hughes served as executive producer and host of the "Internet Safety 101" DVD series, which won three Telly Awards. She worked with the Verizon Foundation and PBS to adapt the series into a television program that aired nationally and regionally, earning an Emmy Award and an Emmy nomination for Hughes as host. She has testified before Congress and served on the Commission on Child Online Protection. Hughes has spoken on Internet dangers, safety, and cybersecurity at forums including the White House, MIT, Johns Hopkins University, the Media Institute, the Freedom Forum, and the National Press Club.

Hughes has been featured in major news outlets and has participated in more than 4,000 interviews.
