Derek Luke Biography
Derek Luke has starred in over 19 films, making his big-screen debut in the Denzel Washington-directed film "Antwone Fisher" as the title character, for which he won an Independent Spirit Award. He will next be seen in Antoine Fuqua’s highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic that will be released worldwide for Lionsgate in 2025.
Luke's vast body of film work includes DreamWorks' "Biker Boyz" opposite Laurence Fishburne, Pete Berg’s "Friday Night Lights," Focus Features’ "Catch a Fire" for director Phillip Noyce, Spike Lee’s "Miracle at St. Anna," Marvel’s "Captain America" opposite Chris Evans, and Focus Features' "Self/Less" opposite Ryan Reynolds and Ben Kingsley. Luke was seen in Hulu's supernatural comedy "Darby and the Dead." He also reunited with his "Pieces of April" co-star, Katie Holmes, in two independent films written and directed by her: "Alone Together" and "Rare Objects."
On the TV front, Luke can recently be seen starring in the new Disney+ series "The Crossover," based on the Newberry Medal and Coretta Scott King Award-winning novel by Kwame Alexander. Other notable TV credits include the hit Netflix series "13 Reasons Why," USA's "The Purge," DirecTV’s "Rogue," and FX’s award-winning series "The Americans."
