Derek Dienner

Derek Dienner is the creative director, founder, and executive producer of MAKE/FILMS, a full-service video production company based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Combining expertise in business and filmmaking, Dienner established MAKE/FILMS, which produces commercials for local, regional, and global brands, as well as Emmy-nominated documentaries and feature films. He specializes in visual storytelling, capturing diverse subjects and landscapes from Cape Town to San Francisco. Dienner has developed MAKE/FILMS into a leading production house in the region, recognized for its work in commercial video production, branded content, and independent film.

Dienner served as executive producer on the feature film "Brave the Dark," which received a nationwide theatrical release through Angel Studios. The film stars BAFTA winner and Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Jared Harris, known for "Chernobyl" and "Mad Men." Dienner also worked as associate film producer and assistant director for "I Heard the Bells." MAKE/FILMS has produced four feature films, demonstrating significant output for an independent production company. The studio operates from a production headquarters in Lancaster City, featuring a 38-foot cyc wall that supports the creation of films, commercials, and social media content.

At age 31, Dienner was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer, an experience he documented in the award-winning short documentary "The Day I Became Alive." The film chronicles his journey through diagnosis, treatment, and recovery, offering insight into his approach to resilience and storytelling. The documentary follows Dienner through 209 days of chemotherapy, exploring his perspective on living with cancer and adapting to new challenges. His work in this area has contributed to discussions on resilience, creativity, executive leadership, and the role of storytelling in personal and professional growth.

In addition to filmmaking, Dienner is the host and executive producer of the "MAKE/IMPACT" podcast, which features conversations focused on positive change in communities. An Emmy-nominated filmmaker, Dienner has appeared at the Sundance Film Festival, reflecting his engagement with the independent film industry. As a keynote speaker, he addresses topics including art, television and film, marketing, business, storytelling, creativity, and executive leadership, drawing from his experience as a creative entrepreneur and cancer survivor to connect with diverse audiences.
