Dawn Porter Biography
Dawn Porter is a lawyer and filmmaker recognized for her work exploring the United States criminal justice system. As the founder of Trilogy Films, Porter directed and produced "Gideon's Army," which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was featured on HBO Documentary Films. "Gideon's Army" documents the experiences of three public defenders in the Deep South as they navigate the challenges of representing hundreds of defendants within the criminal justice system.
Porter is an alumnus of the Tribeca All Access program and received the juried Creative Promise Award for "Gideon's Army." Realscreen identified Porter as one of its Doc Hot Shots emerging directors to watch. Additional projects from Trilogy Films include "Spies of Mississippi" for ARTE Germany and PBS, as well as a documentary about chef Alexandra Guarnaschelli for Cooking Channel.
Prior to her filmmaking career, Porter served as director of news standards and practices at ABC News and vice president of standards and practices at A&E Networks. Porter is a graduate of Swarthmore College and Georgetown University Law Center. She practiced law at Baker & Hostetler and ABC Television Networks before transitioning to television production.
