David Riemer

David Riemer is a marketing executive, author, and educator with a career spanning four decades in advertising, technology, and entrepreneurship. Riemer began as an assistant account executive at J. Walter Thompson New York and advanced to president of JWT West. He transitioned from advertising to technology, bringing his strategic and marketing expertise to Internet startups Quokka Sports and the FeedRoom. Riemer later joined Yahoo as vice president of marketing, where he led business-to-business and consumer marketing initiatives for Yahoo's suite of products, reaching a global audience of 500 million users.

In his role at Yahoo, Riemer managed marketing teams across both B-to-B and consumer segments, overseeing a staff of 100 marketers and directing product marketing and go-to-market strategies. His experience in both traditional advertising and the early internet has informed his approach to brand communication and digital marketing.

Riemer is the author of "Get Your Startup Story Straight: The Definitive Storytelling Framework for Innovators and Entrepreneurs," which focuses on storytelling for startups and business innovation. He has worked with hundreds of innovators to develop effective narratives for their products and companies. Riemer serves as executive-in-residence at Berkeley Haas School of Business, advises teams at Bay Area accelerators, and conducts storytelling workshops at organizations including Google, SAP, Salesforce, Netflix, Bose, Kaiser Permanente, Abbott Labs, and NSF I-Corps. He is also a contributor to Forbes.com, writing about startup storytelling and entrepreneurship.

Riemer founded Box Out Industries to collaborate with entrepreneurs and Spiral Staircase to work with artists. He is a frequent speaker on innovation, entrepreneurship, and storytelling in the Bay Area and internationally. Outside of business, Riemer serves on the board of trustees of American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco and produces original musical theater projects. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University and a Master of Business Administration from Columbia University.
