David Burke

David Burke is a chef, restaurateur, and culinary innovator recognized for his contributions to modern American cuisine. Burke graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and completed training in France with chefs including Pierre Troisgros, Georges Blanc, and Gaston Lenôtre. He became executive chef at River Café in New York City, where he earned a three-star review from The New York Times and became the first American to receive the Meilleurs Ouvriers de France Diplome d'Honneur.

Burke has received multiple industry honors, including the Nippon Award for Excellence, the Robert Mondavi Award of Excellence, and two nominations for James Beard Best Chef. The James Beard Foundation inducted Burke into the Who's Who of Food & Beverage in America, and Nation's Restaurant News presented him with the Menu Masters award. Star Chefs magazine recognized him with the Contribution to American Cuisine Award at the Star Chefs Congress. Burke was also the first restaurant chef inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame.

Burke opened Park Avenue Café with Alan Stillman and later served as vice president of culinary development for Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group. He founded David Burke Group, which includes DB Global and David Burke Hospitality Management. Through these ventures, Burke oversees restaurants, a bakery, and an online collection of cookware and kitchen tools, with operations in locations from New Jersey to Saudi Arabia. He holds a United States patent for a process using pink Himalayan salt to dry-age steaks and has developed industry innovations such as Pastrami Salmon, flavored oils, tuna tartare, and GourmetPops cheesecake lollipops.

Burke has appeared on television programs including "Top Chef Masters," "Every Day with Rachael Ray," NBC's TODAY Show, and Bloomberg's "The Mentor." He is the author of "Cooking With David Burke" and "David Burke's New American Classics," co-written with Judith Choate. Burke is a frequent contributor to media outlets such as ABC TV, Forbes, Fox TV, and Bloomberg, sharing insights on culinary trends, restaurant management, and hospitality industry developments.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Burke launched the #FeedtheHeroes program, delivering more than 100,000 meals to frontline workers and charities. He was recognized by Ernst & Young as an Entrepreneur of the Year for community impact. Burke established the David Burke Scholarship at Brookdale Community College, supporting students in culinary arts and hospitality management.
