Dale Harris

Dale Harris is a coffee professional and World Barista Champion, earning the title after nearly a decade of competition on the national stage in the United Kingdom. Harris secured the championship at the World Barista Championship in Seoul, South Korea, where baristas from 58 countries competed for the title. Representing the UK for the first time at the global level, Harris had previously placed second in the UK Barista Championship for three consecutive years before winning the national title and advancing to the world competition.

Harris's championship routine focused on scientific storytelling and sensory education. Departing from conventional competition formats, he structured his presentation around the aromatic compounds found in coffee, selecting 10 significant compounds to explain the espresso's flavor profile to the judges. He incorporated charts, tasting boards, and physical objects to create a multi-sensory experience, drawing inspiration from a perfume exhibition at Somerset House in London. Harris was the only finalist among the top six not to use a Geisha coffee, instead choosing an El Salvadorian SL28 micro-lot, which distinguished his presentation.

In addition to his championship, Harris has developed a career in the specialty coffee industry spanning more than a decade. He joined Hasbean Coffee, a specialty coffee roaster, wholesaler, and online retailer, eventually leading the brand and later moving into product and business development roles across Hasbean and Ozone Coffee Roasters, with operations in the UK, New Zealand, and other regions. Harris also served as chief operations officer at Ozone Coffee Roasters UK. His leadership in the coffee community includes serving as a founding member and chair of the Barista Guild of Europe and as a director of the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe, contributing to the governance and direction of the specialty coffee movement.

As World Barista Champion, Harris traveled across Asia, Europe, and the Americas, acting as an ambassador for specialty coffee and mentoring competitors. He has participated in events such as the Producer Roaster Forum in El Salvador, where he mentored national barista championship competitors, and has been a guest on industry podcasts and media platforms. Harris has also worked as a coffee consultant, assisting cafes, roasters, and brands in enhancing quality, developing barista training programs, and refining offerings. His approach emphasizes building long-term relationships based on quality, transparency, and respect for every part of the coffee supply chain, from farm to cup.
