Connor Williams is your All-American man. His story is one of both adversity and of triumph. Connor was born to a loving family just outside of Dallas, Texas, who he cites as being his biggest inspiration and motivation. He was always a bigger kid, but he had a shy personality. He didn’t speak until he was three years old and, when he did, he had a speech impediment. Coupled with his bigger physique, Connor was subject to bullying throughout his childhood. Whether it was the way he looked, his size, or how he spoke, the daily battle against bullies dragged on.
He was the kid who was kicked out of the lunch table and picked last for teams. He never had a close friend group and never felt like he fit in. That is, until he decided to change his circumstances. Connor’s drive was discovered at a young age. When he no longer wanted to deal with the bullies making fun of his size, he asked his dad to help him get in shape. The two of them would get up before school to work out, and Connor quickly noticed a difference, especially on the football field. In high school, Connor spent time learning both sides of the ball, enjoying his time both protecting his quarterback and sacking the opposition. His talents did not go unnoticed, as he was selected to the second-team 6A All-State and All-district teams, receiving offers from all of the top universities in the nation.
A true Texan, Connor accepted a scholarship to play football at the University of Texas in Austin. He made an impact right away, starting every game as a freshman at left tackle. His breakout sophomore year earned him a first-team All-American honors. He wasn’t just good at football, either. When he arrived at the University of Texas, he was the only scholarship athlete on the football team to have been admitted into the business school. His first semester, he earned a GPA of 3.75.
His junior season, Connor was elected team captain. An injury early in the season caused him to miss a significant number of games, but he was determined to come back to help the team make it to a bowl game. The bowl game was not to be for Connor. While he had played in a few games at the end of the season, he never felt fully recovered from his injury, and he had his eyes set on his future. He made the difficult decision to sit out of the bowl game, forego his senior season, and enter the 2018 NFL Draft
There was a lot of excitement leading up to the 2018 draft as Connor was one of the most sought after offensive linemen in the nation. Millions watched the moment as the Dallas native fell to his knees upon receiving the call from Jerry Jones that he would become a Cowboy, a member of America’s Team. The hometown hero returned to Dallas to play for the Cowboys this past season, starting 10 of 13 games as a rookie.
He is passionate about sharing his story of struggles, successes, and staying grounded in that which is most important to him.
