Connor McDavid

Connor McDavid is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who serves as center and captain for the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League. McDavid was granted exceptional player status by Hockey Canada, allowing him to begin playing junior ice hockey at age 15. During his three-year career in the Ontario Hockey League, McDavid earned five individual awards and concluded his junior tenure as one of the most decorated players in league history. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the Ontario Hockey League Playoffs and awarded the Wayne Gretzky '99' Award, leading the OHL Playoffs in scoring with 49 points, including 21 goals and 28 assists.

McDavid was selected first overall by the Oilers in the NHL Entry Draft. Despite missing part of his rookie season due to injury, he was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team, and the Oilers later appointed him as the youngest captain in NHL history. At age 19 years and 266 days, he was 20 days younger than Gabriel Landeskog when named captain of the Colorado Avalanche. In his first full season as captain, McDavid recorded 100 points at age 20, becoming the second youngest player to win the Art Ross Trophy as the league's leading scorer.

Throughout his NHL career, McDavid has accumulated a significant collection of individual honors. He captured his sixth career Art Ross Trophy as the NHL's scoring champion, registering 138 points in 82 games. His six Art Ross Trophies are tied for the second-most in NHL history, behind only Wayne Gretzky. McDavid has also been named the winner of the Ted Lindsay Award five times, joining Gretzky as the only players to win the award five times. He has won the Hart Trophy for most valuable player three times and is only the second player to be selected unanimously as the Hart Trophy winner. In one season, McDavid scored 64 goals and tallied 153 points, becoming the first NHL player in over a quarter century to top 150 points in a season. Over his career, he has produced more than 1,200 points, with an average of 1.54 points per game that ranks third in League history, trailing only Gretzky and Lemieux.

McDavid earned the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, setting a record with 42 points in 25 games, including 31 points on the power play. He became the first player to win the award without his team capturing the Cup since Ron Hextall. Internationally, McDavid served as an alternate captain at the 4 Nations Face-Off, recording three goals and five points in four games, including the game-winning goal in the final against the United States. This marked his first international gold medal at the senior level, earning him Player of the Game honors in the final. At the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, McDavid was named MVP and best forward in the tournament, recording 13 points and setting an Olympic record. In 2026, he received the Best NHL Player Award at the ESPYS.

McDavid's career has also been defined by resilience. He suffered a significant knee injury — tearing his posterior cruciate ligament, medial and lateral menisci, the popliteus muscle, and sustaining a tibial plateau fracture — before completing a comeback following nearly six months of non-surgical rehab. He has spoken about the mental toll of that recovery, making his return to high-level performance notable. With 15 career individual awards, McDavid stands fifth in League history in that category, behind only Gretzky, Alex Ovechkin, Mario Lemieux, and Bobby Orr, continuing to influence the modern game of professional ice hockey.
