Clark Gregg

Clark Gregg is an American actor, director, and screenwriter with a career spanning more than three decades in theater, film, and television. Gregg is a founding member and former artistic director of Atlantic Theater Company, where he developed his craft in the New York theater scene before moving into screen work. He appeared in the original Broadway production of "A Few Good Men" by Aaron Sorkin and studied drama at New York University. Gregg co-founded Atlantic Theater Company with playwright David Mamet and actor William H. Macy.

Gregg established himself on stage and built a reputation through supporting roles in film and television before joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His screenwriting debut, "What Lies Beneath," starred Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer and was directed by Robert Zemeckis. Gregg made his feature film directing debut with "Choke," adapted from the novel by Chuck Palahniuk, which starred Sam Rockwell and premiered at Sundance Film Festival, earning a Special Jury Prize. His second film as writer-director, the indie comedy "Trust Me," starred Gregg, Rockwell, and Amanda Peet and premiered at Tribeca Film Festival.

Within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Gregg played Agent Phil Coulson, Marvel Studios' first original character created for the screen. Initially a minor role in "Iron Man," Coulson became a central figure in "Iron Man 2," "Thor," and "The Avengers," connecting storylines across the franchise. Following the character's death in "The Avengers," fan response led to Coulson's return in ABC's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," which ran for seven seasons and 136 episodes. Gregg received a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in "The Avengers."

On television, Gregg co-starred with Julia Louis-Dreyfus for five seasons on CBS' "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and held recurring roles on The West Wing, Sports Night, Will & Grace, Sex and the City, and The Shield. His film credits include "One Hour Photo," "We Were Soldiers," "500 Days of Summer," "Much Ado About Nothing," and "Being the Ricardos." Gregg holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Gregg has continued to work in prestige television, taking on roles such as Arthur Sackler Sr. in "Painkiller" and Admiral Milius in "Snowpiercer." He stars in the historical murder mystery series "The Artist," set during the Gilded Age in New York, and has appeared in "Murderbot" and "Zero Day," demonstrating versatility across genres in the entertainment industry.
