Chukwuemeka Nwuba

Dr. Chukwuemeka Nwuba is a London-based mental health doctor specializing in eating disorders, with a focus on underrepresented communities. Nwuba's transition from aspiring ophthalmologist to a leader in eating disorders psychiatry was influenced by a pivotal moment of introspection, shaping his approach to the understanding and treatment of eating disorders, particularly within diverse populations. As a psychiatric trainee and eating disorder advocate, he is co-founder of Club Majority, a community-led organization dedicated to improving care for underrepresented patients with eating disorders.

Nwuba's work spans clinical practice, education, and publishing. He is a member of the Association of Black Psychiatrists, clinical lead for Mind of the Student charity, and co-founder of ed/md, the United Kingdom's first eating disorders conference for medical students. He also serves as a clinical advisor for Rethink Mental Illness and The MOTS Charity. His essay on eating disorders and race-related issues, "Leanne," was published by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. His work has appeared in The Lancet Child and Adolescent Health, Men's Health, and BBC.

In publishing, Nwuba authored the book "Eating Disorders Don't Discriminate." The anthology features 31 stories addressing stereotypes and misconceptions about eating disorders, with contributions from athletes, activists, directors, models, and health professionals. The book, co-compiled with eating disorder advocate Bailey Spinn, explores the impact of race, gender, culture, and social media on experiences of body image and food.

Nwuba is a frequent speaker on eating disorders in underrepresented groups at international conferences and serves as director of Club Majority. He has been recognized on Powerful Media's Top 10 Black Future Leaders list. Through clinical work, writing, and advocacy, Nwuba challenges stereotypes surrounding eating disorders and promotes a more equitable, inclusive approach to mental health care.
