Christine Bader

Christine Bader is recognized for her work in corporate responsibility, sustainability, and human rights in business. With experience at major corporations including Amazon and BP, Bader has developed expertise in helping companies understand their global impacts and create policies that address both risks and opportunities related to social responsibility. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies from Amherst College and a Master of Business Administration from Yale University, where her interest in the intersection of business and social change began.

After completing her MBA, Bader joined BP, working in Indonesia, China, and the United Kingdom to manage the human rights impacts of large-scale projects. She later served as an advisor to the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Representative for business and human rights, first in a part-time pro bono capacity and then full-time until the conclusion of the UN mandate. This role placed Bader at the intersection of global policy and corporate practice, contributing to the development of international standards for business and human rights.

Bader is the author of "The Evolution of a Corporate Idealist: When Girl Meets Oil." In the book, she examines the challenges faced by professionals advocating for social responsibility within corporations, offering insights into the realities of corporate culture. She served as Amazon's first director of social responsibility, further advancing initiatives in ethical business practices and sustainability.

Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, Fast Company, Harvard Business Review, and other publications. Bader has delivered talks at conferences, companies, and universities worldwide, including TED and TEDxMcMinnville. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and has held roles such as Nonresident Senior Fellow with the Kenan Institute for Ethics at Duke University and Human Rights Advisor to BSR (Business for Social Responsibility).

Bader was named to the Donaldson Fellows class, which recognizes Yale School of Management graduates for leadership in business and society. She resides in McMinnville, Oregon, where she serves on the city's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Committee and teaches in Linfield University's School of Business.
