Christie Hefner

Christie Hefner is recognized as a leading executive in American business, with a career spanning media, publishing, and corporate leadership. Hefner graduated from Brandeis University summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and American literature and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in her junior year. After graduation, she worked as a freelance art critic for the Boston Phoenix, a prominent arts and entertainment weekly in New England. Hefner then joined Playboy Enterprises, where she advanced to become president, and later served as chairman of the board and CEO.

As chairman and CEO of Playboy Enterprises, Hefner led the company through a significant transformation, expanding its reach from a domestic magazine publisher to a global multimedia and lifestyle brand. She oversaw the launch of 25 localized foreign editions of Playboy Magazine and developed the company’s pay television business, marking the first time a magazine brand was successfully extended into a television network. Hefner also directed the launch of Playboy.com, making Playboy the first national magazine to establish a website, and built a diversified digital business encompassing premium content, e-commerce, advertising, and gaming. Under her leadership, Playboy generated nearly $1 billion in global retail sales.

Hefner emphasized gender equity in corporate leadership, with more than 40 percent of Playboy executives being women at the time of her retirement. She was named to Fortune's list of "The 100 Most Powerful Women in the World" for three consecutive years. Hefner is a founding member of The Chicago Network, The Committee of 200, and the Chicago Chapter of Women Corporate Directors, and was the first woman elected to the Chicago Chapter of the Young Presidents' Organization. She served as an advisory board member and spokesperson for The Shriver Report: A Woman's Nation Changes Everything, which explored the impact of women’s evolving roles in the workplace and society.

Hefner has been an advocate for civil liberties and free expression, founding the First Amendment Awards to honor individuals advancing justice and free speech. She has served on the board of the American Civil Liberties Union and the advisory board of the Creative Coalition, which honored her with the Christopher Reeve First Amendment Award. Hefner received the Eleanor Roosevelt Award from the International Platform Association for her commitment to human rights and was inducted into the Women's Business Development Center Hall of Fame for her contributions to women entrepreneurs.

Following her tenure at Playboy, Hefner held leadership roles across various industries, including serving as executive chairman of Canyon Ranch Enterprises, a health and wellness resort company, and as chairman of Hatch Beauty, a personal care brand innovation firm. She also joined the board of RDO Companies, an agricultural conglomerate, and chaired the project board for the CORE Center, raising $30 million for a clinic and research facility focused on HIV/AIDS and communicable diseases in Chicago. As a speaker and thought leader, Hefner addresses topics such as brand building, digital innovation, First Amendment rights, women’s leadership, and corporate governance.
