Chris Turner

Chris Turner is recognized as a leading Canadian voice on climate change solutions and the global energy transition. Turner has reported extensively on clean energy, sustainable industry, and green design, building a body of work that spans journalism, nonfiction books, and public speaking. His feature writing has appeared in publications including The Walrus, The New Yorker, and The Guardian, earning him 10 National Magazine Awards. Turner has also received the President's Medal for General Excellence, the highest honor in Canadian magazine writing.

Turner is the author of several nonfiction books that have contributed to public discourse on sustainability and energy. His works include "Planet Simpson: How a Cartoon Masterpiece Documented an Era and Defined a Generation" and "Geography of Hope: A Guided Tour of the World We Need," which was nominated for the Governor General's Literary Award and the National Business Book Award and was listed on The Globe and Mail's Globe 100 list of best books. Additional titles include "The War on Science," which received the Freedom to Read Award, and "The Leap," both National Business Book Award finalists.

"The Patch: The People, Pipelines, and Politics of the Oil Sands" received the National Business Book Award. "How to Be a Climate Optimist: Blueprints for a Better World" was awarded the Shaughnessy Cohen Prize for political writing. Turner also published a collection of essays and feature writing, "How to Breathe Underwater." Across these works, Turner is known for combining in-depth reporting with an accessible perspective on environmental challenges, renewable energy, and climate policy.

Drawing on two decades of experience covering climate solutions worldwide, Turner presents a case for optimism in the global response to climate change. His reporting on renewable energy, cleantech, and urban design offers insights into sustainable development and the evolving green economy. Turner has served as a Berton House writer-in-residence in Dawson City, Yukon, and as a Paul D. Fleck Fellow at Banff Centre. Alberta Venture Magazine named him one of Alberta's Next 10 Most Influential Albertans.
