Chiney Ogwumike

Chiney Ogwumike is a professional basketball player and sports media analyst known for her contributions to both the WNBA and sports broadcasting. A graduate of Stanford University with a degree in international relations, Ogwumike concluded her collegiate basketball career as the all-time career scoring leader in Pac-12 Conference history. She earned recognition as a three-time WBCA Coaches' All-American, three-time Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, two-time Pac-12 Player of the Year, Women's Basketball Academic All-American of the Year, and recipient of the John R. Wooden Award.

Ogwumike was selected first overall in the WNBA Draft by the Connecticut Sun and began her professional career as a starter, averaging 15.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in her rookie season. She was named a WNBA All-Star alongside her sister Nneka Ogwumike, marking the first time sisters were selected for a WNBA All-Star game, and earned the WNBA Rookie of the Year Award. The Ogwumike sisters joined Peyton and Eli Manning as the only siblings selected number one overall in a professional sports league. Despite significant injuries, including knee and Achilles surgeries, Ogwumike returned to the court and secured a second WNBA All-Star selection. She also served as vice president of the WNBA Players Association.

Ogwumike became one of the few full-time professional athletes to hold a full-time national sports media position, joining ESPN as a basketball analyst. She became the first Black woman and the first WNBA player to host a national radio show for ESPN, co-hosting the program "Chiney & Golic Jr." with Mike Golic Jr. Ogwumike has contributed to ESPN's "NBA Today," SportsCenter, First Take, Get Up, WNBA Countdown, and NCAA Women's Basketball studio shows, providing analysis on both college and professional basketball.

She served as executive producer for the ESPN Films documentary "144," which chronicles the WNBA's 2020 season. Ogwumike has been recognized as a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree and has advocated for global sports development. She served on the White House's inaugural advisory council on African Diaspora Engagement and was named the first Female Basketball Africa League Ambassador. Ogwumike also hosts the ESPN podcast "Chiney Today," continuing her work as a prominent voice in sports media and basketball analysis.
