Cecilia Vega

Cecilia Vega is an Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist whose career spans California newspapers and national television news. Vega began her journalism career in print at publications including San Bernardino Sun, Santa Rosa Press Democrat, and San Francisco Chronicle before moving into television reporting in local markets and later, national broadcasts. Her work has received recognition from the California Newspaper Publishers Association, East Bay Press Club, and Hearst Corporation. While at KGO-TV in San Francisco, Vega earned a Northern California Emmy Award for Best Daytime Newscast in a Large Market, which contributed to her rise in national news.

Vega joined CBS News as a correspondent for "60 Minutes," becoming the first Latina correspondent for the program. Prior to CBS, Vega spent 12 years at ABC, where she served as the network's chief White House correspondent and anchored broadcasts including "Good Morning America" and the Saturday edition of "World News Tonight." At ABC, Vega covered California politics, national security, and presidential campaigns, including those of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. As the lead correspondent on Clinton's campaign, she traveled extensively, logging significant time on the campaign trail. Vega was a key member of ABC's politics team, reporting on Supreme Court nominations, the firing of FBI Director James Comey, the Mueller report, presidential impeachments, and inaugurations.

Vega's reporting extends beyond political coverage. As a "60 Minutes" correspondent, she investigated topics such as the Saudi government's alleged involvement in the 9/11 terror attacks and reported from Ukraine and Poland on the Russian abduction of Ukrainian children. Her international reporting includes coverage of the Fukushima nuclear disaster, the papal conclave that elected Pope Francis, and assignments in challenging environments such as a submarine in the Arctic Sea and the floodwaters of Hurricane Katrina.

Her investigative journalism at the U.S.-Mexico border highlighted overcrowded conditions in detention centers and prompted White House responses regarding migrant families and children. Vega has also been recognized for her mentorship of young Hispanic journalists and her support of organizations such as the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and California Chicana News Media Association. She was named National Latina Journalist of the Year by these organizations. The granddaughter of Mexican immigrants and the first in her immediate family to graduate from college, Vega is recognized for her work in accountability journalism, political reporting, and international news coverage.
