Cashauna Hill is a nationally recognized fair housing attorney and advocate whose career focuses on dismantling discriminatory housing policies that shape American communities. Hill's work is informed by her experiences with the impacts of residential segregation and exclusionary housing policy, and she has dedicated her career to challenging these practices. She is a graduate of Spelman College and Tulane Law School.
Hill has extensive fair housing litigation experience, having served as Fair Housing Staff Attorney at the Oregon Law Center in Portland and Senior Staff Attorney at the Greater New Orleans Fair Housing Action Center. She later served as executive director of the Louisiana Fair Housing Action Center, where she led a team working to end discriminatory housing policies and practices through litigation, policy advocacy, community-based education, and direct services. During her tenure, Hill led the community engagement process for the City of New Orleans' Assessment of Fair Housing plan, the first in the nation submitted under a rule requiring state and local governments to identify and address barriers to fair housing choice.
Hill was subsequently named executive director of The Redress Movement, which supports local communities in promoting and securing remedies for intentionally discriminatory policies that segregate neighborhoods. The organization leads a multi-racial movement that empowers communities to take direct action to address racial segregation, working in partnership with local communities to repair the harm caused by intentional policies. In this role, Hill has participated in policy discussions, including meetings with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, where she raised concerns about the erosion of civil rights protections, including the disparate impact principle and special purpose credit programs.
Hill has written extensively about housing segregation and civil rights and has testified before the United States Congress as a fair housing expert. She has contributed to outlets including Next City and The Hill. As a public speaker, Hill has delivered keynote addresses at events across the country, presenting on her work to advocate, educate, and litigate for communities affected by illegal housing discrimination, and sharing historical and modern examples of housing segregation and breaches of fair housing laws.
Hill was the inaugural recipient of the Tulane Law School Public Interest Law Foundation's Practitioner Service Award. Her experience as a litigator, policy advocate, and organizational leader positions her as an authoritative voice on issues of housing equity, racial justice, and the consequences of discriminatory housing policy in the United States.
