Carolyn Coker Ross

Dr. Carolyn Coker Ross, MD, MPH, CEDS-C, is an African American author, speaker and expert in the treatment of substance use disorders, eating disorders and trauma. She is the former CEO of The Anchor Program™, a non-diet online telemedicine program for individuals with binge eating disorder, emotional eating, and food addiction, founded in 2016.

Dr. Ross graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School. She completed a residency in Preventive Medicine and a master’s degree in Public Health at Loma Linda University and a fellowship in Integrative Medicine with Dr. Andrew Weil’s Program in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. For the past four years, Dr. Ross has been an international speaker and consultant on issues of cultural competence, antiracism, and diversity in mental health.

Dr. Ross presented a TEDxPleasantGrove talk on “Historical and Intergenerational Trauma” in January 2020. She was the co-chair of the AAEDP-BIPOC (African American Eating Disorder Professionals – Black Indigenous People of Color) subcommittee of International Eating Disorder Professionals. She is a certified eating disorder specialist – supervisor (CEDS-C) through iaedp. She is the author of three books on eating disorders, the most recent being “The Food Addiction Recovery Workbook.” She is also a contributing author to the book “Treating Black Women with Eating Disorders: A Clinician’s Guide,” and the founder of Inclusive Minds Consulting, which works with addiction and mental health treatment centers to make culturally competent mental and behavioral health care more available, equitable and accessible to Black, Indigenous People of Color.

Dr. Ross received an award for Outstanding Service in Addiction Medicine in 2022 from Friendly House Los Angeles and the Dr. Peter Hayden Diversity, Inclusivity and Racial Equity Award from the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP) in 2023. She is a co-editor of “Antiblackness and the Stories of Authentic Allies: Lived Experiences in the Fight Against Institutionalized Racism."
