Carol Swain

Carol M. Swain is a university professor, political commentator, and author known for her scholarship on race, law, and American identity. Swain's academic journey began in Virginia and led to advanced degrees from Roanoke College, Virginia Polytechnic & State University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Yale. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Swain held faculty positions at Princeton and Vanderbilt, where she served as professor of political science and professor of law. Her research focuses on race relations, immigration, political representation, evangelical politics, and the United States Constitution. Swain's book, "Black Faces, Black Interests: The Representation of African Americans in Congress," received the Woodrow Wilson Prize. Her book, "The New White Nationalism in America: Its Challenge to Integration," was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. Swain's work has been cited by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Swain has authored or edited more than a dozen books, including "Be the People: A Call to Reclaim America's Faith and Promise," "Debating Immigration," and "Contemporary Voices of White Nationalism." She co-authored "Abduction: How Liberalism Steals the Hearts and Minds of Our Children" with Steve Feazel. Her commentaries have appeared in CNN Online, The Financial Times, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Times, and USA Today.

Swain has served on the 1776 Commission, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the U.S. Civil Rights Commission's Tennessee Advisory Committee. She was vice chairwoman of the President's Advisory 1776 Commission. As an entrepreneur, Swain founded Carol Swain Enterprises and REAL Unity Training Solutions, which offer alternatives to traditional DEI programs and promote civil rights and equality under the law. She was a candidate in a special mayoral election in Nashville, Tennessee.

Swain is a frequent commentator on Fox News, CNN, ABC, and CBS, and her op-eds have been published in The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. She received the Frederick Douglass Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions to conservative thought. Swain serves as a senior fellow at the Institute for Faith and Culture, where she continues to influence national discussions on race, law, and civic identity.
