Burna Boy

Burna Boy, born Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer recognized for his contributions to Afrobeats, Afro-fusion, and global music. He describes his music as "Afro-fusion," blending electronic Afrobeats with rap, R&B, jazz, dancehall, and reggae. Through his music, live performances, and collaborations with artists from various countries, Burna Boy has played a significant role in popularizing Afrobeats internationally. His work often explores African culture, Black expression, and Pan-Africanism. His maternal grandfather, Benson Idonije, a broadcaster and critic who managed Fela Kuti, has influenced his artistic identity and commitment to African musical heritage.

Burna Boy gained initial recognition with the single "Like to Party" and released his debut album, "L.I.F.E.: Leaving an Impact for Eternity," which featured collaborations with Nigerian artists Wizkid and Timaya and reached number seven on Billboard's reggae albums chart. He expanded his discography with albums such as "On a Spaceship" and "Outside." His fourth studio album, "African Giant," received critical and commercial success and was nominated for Best World Music Album at the Grammy Awards. Burna Boy contributed to Beyoncé's album "The Lion King: The Gift," where he was the only guest artist with a solo track.

The album "Twice as Tall" marked a pivotal point in Burna Boy's career, earning the Grammy Award for Best World Music Album and making him the first Nigerian artist operating within the Nigerian music industry to win a Grammy. Burna Boy also became the first African artist to perform at the UEFA Champions League Final Kick Off Show by Pepsi at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, performing before more than 71,000 attendees and a global audience. He was the first Afrobeats artist to perform at the Grammy Awards.
