Bruno Sánchez-Andrade Nuño

Bruno Sánchez-Andrade Nuño, PhD, is a scientist, technologist, and entrepreneur specializing in artificial intelligence applications for planetary-scale challenges. Sánchez-Andrade Nuño earned a PhD in astrophysics from the Max Planck Institute in Germany, graduating magna cum laude, and later worked as a postdoctoral researcher in astrophysics on NASA satellites and rockets. His background in scientific research and engineering has supported a career spanning academia, the private sector, NGOs, and global institutions. He is the author of the book "Impact Science," which explores the role of science and research in social and environmental impact. Sánchez-Andrade Nuño has been recognized as a Mirzayan Science Policy Fellow of the US National Academies of Science and as a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum.

Sánchez-Andrade Nuño has held leadership roles in technology and development, including Director of Science and Technology at Gain.org, focusing on climate change adaptation, and Chief Scientist at Mapbox before joining the World Bank Group. At the World Bank Innovation Lab, his team led the institution's big data initiatives. He later served as Vice President for Social Impact at Satellogic, a satellite company. Sánchez-Andrade Nuño founded and directed the Microsoft Planetary Computer, a global initiative managing extensive environmental data and supporting numerous research projects. He has also been a member of the World Economic Forum's Global Future Council on Space.

Sánchez-Andrade Nuño is Chief Scientist and co-founder of Lgnd.ai and co-founder of Clay, both organizations advancing AI for Earth. LGND is a planetary intelligence company that transforms satellite and Earth-observation data into actionable intelligence for Earth-aware AI and real-world decision-making. Concurrently, he is co-founder and executive director of Clay, an open-source foundation model for Earth observation, operating as a nonprofit with freely available resources. LGND AI has secured $9 million in financing from investors including Javelin Venture Partners, AENU, Space Capital, Overture, Ridgeline, MCJ, Coalition Operators, and Clocktower Ventures.

Sánchez-Andrade Nuño advises climate and deep tech funds on earth observation and geo-AI investments and has served on advisory boards for organizations such as the Inmarsat Development Program, the UAE Statistical Authority, and IamtheCode. With more than 10 years of international experience as a published author and speaker on science and technology outreach, Sánchez-Andrade Nuño serves on various boards of technology companies and climate change initiatives. His work bridges astrophysics, geospatial AI, and global development, focusing on how emerging technologies can address environmental and humanitarian challenges.
