Brett Zbar

Brett Zbar, MD, is managing director and global head of life sciences at General Atlantic, a global growth equity firm with more than $100 billion under management. At General Atlantic, Zbar leads the firm’s dedicated life sciences platform, overseeing investments in companies across therapeutics, life science tools, and pharmaceutical services, and guiding the sector’s global expansion strategy.

Prior to joining General Atlantic, Zbar held senior roles at Foresite Capital and Aisling Capital, where he supported and advised healthcare entrepreneurs and companies at all stages of development. His investment portfolio includes IPOs, acquisitions, and ventures in oncology, rare diseases, cardiometabolic disorders, neuropsychiatry, and biopharmaceutical manufacturing. Earlier in his career, Zbar was a senior member of McKinsey & Company’s Pharmaceuticals and Medical Products practice. He completed his medical training at Johns Hopkins Hospital after earning his MD from Harvard Medical School and a BA in molecular biophysics, biochemistry, and English from Yale University.

Zbar is known for his expertise in scaling innovation and advancing patient care, and he frequently participates in public forums and industry events to share insights on life sciences. He serves on the boards of several companies and holds advisory roles with organizations such as the Technology Development Fund at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Council on Foreign Relations.
