Brandi Beckett

Brandi Beckett is a transgender activist, public speaker, and journalist whose personal journey has served as a platform for education, empathy, and social change. As an openly transgender woman, Beckett works to influence public understanding of gender and gender assignment through public speaking, media appearances, social media, and transgender awareness training. Her outreach aims to support individuals exploring their gender identity or expression, as well as their loved ones, emphasizing that everyone belongs on a spectrum of gender identity.

Beckett's path to activism was shaped by a significant academic transition. After resigning from the Department of Defense and returning to school, she attended Hillsborough Community College, where she was accepted into the Honors Institute program and awarded a Presidential scholarship. She later earned a full-ride scholarship to Mount Holyoke College and became one of the first transgender women to graduate from an Ivy League all-women's college. Her academic work included a thesis project on archaic hominins using 3-D printing, which became a featured class at Mount Holyoke College, and she has conducted research on the first people of the Americas.

Prior to her academic pursuits, Beckett worked for the Department of Defense at a Marine Base for more than 12 years and spent over 10 years coaching youth sports, including little-league baseball teams that achieved city, district, and regional championships. She has also competed in the Massachusetts Senior Games, earning multiple gold medals in women's cycling. These experiences contribute to her broad perspective and inform her approach to storytelling and advocacy.

Beckett's activism and speaking engagements emphasize education through empathy, logic, and reasoning, while sharing stories from her personal experiences. She addresses topics related to transgender rights and movements, and has been a featured speaker at college lecture series, conferences, and gatherings across New England and the United States. As a transgender journalist, Beckett uses her platform to counter misinformation and advocate for the dignity of transgender and non-binary individuals.
