Bob Roll

Bob Roll is a former professional cyclist, author, and television sports commentator. A member of the 7-Eleven Cycling Team through 1990, he competed for the Motorola Cycling Team in 1991 before joining Greg LeMond’s Z team in 1992, where he expanded his racing career to include mountain biking. Roll continued racing mountain bikes professionally through 1998. Known throughout the cycling world—and to global cable television audiences—by his affectionate nickname “Bobke,” Roll has remained one of the sport’s most recognizable personalities.

He is the author of "Bobke: A Ride on the Wild Side of Cycling," "Bobke II," and two Tour de France Companion volumes, and has contributed numerous columns to VeloNews.

Roll continues to ride both road and mountain bikes recreationally and serves as a veteran member of NBC Sports’ cycling broadcast team. Alongside Phil Liggett, MBE, and Paul Sherwen, he has provided expert commentary for coverage of the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, Paris–Roubaix, Tour of California, and other major international road races.

He has also appeared in a series of Road ID Tour de France television commercials, portraying himself riding a bus alongside “Tour Mania,” a costumed faux rock group played by well-known professional cyclists.
