Blake Shelton is an American country singer-songwriter and television personality whose career spans chart-topping music, reality TV prominence and a recent reinvention of his artistic priorities. Born June 18, 1976, in Ada, Oklahoma, Shelton first rose to fame in 2001 with his debut single, “Austin,” the lead-off from his self-titled album. The song spent five weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. That platinum-certified album also delivered two more Top 20 hits: “All Over Me” and “Ol’ Red.”
Shelton’s second album, “The Dreamer” (2003), earned a gold certification, while “Blake Shelton’s Barn & Grill” (2004) went platinum. His musical evolution continued with “Pure BS” (2007), reissued in 2008 with a cover of Michael Bublé’s “Home.” “Startin’ Fires” followed in 2008, and in 2010 he released two EPs: “Hillbilly Bone” and “All About Tonight.” Additional albums include “Red River Blue” (2011), “Based on a True Story…” (2013), “Bringing Back the Sunshine” (2014) and “If I’m Honest” (2016), all of which solidified his position as a country music mainstay.
Beyond his early hits, Shelton continued to break records. He amassed a streak of 17 consecutive No. 1 singles on the Country Airplay chart between 2010 and 2016, culminating with “Doin’ What She Likes,” which broke country radio’s long-standing records.
From 2011 to 2023, Shelton served as a coach on NBC’s “The Voice,” appearing in 23 seasons and becoming the show’s winningest coach. He credits the series with broadening his audience and even meeting his future wife, Gwen Stefani.
After stepping away from “The Voice” in 2023, Shelton embraced a slower, more intentional pace. He signed with BMG after 25 years with Warner Music Nashville, a move he described as the start of a new chapter.
His single “Texas,” released in November 2024, marked his 30th No. 1 country radio hit and launched his 13th studio album, “For Recreational Use Only,” which arrived in May 2025. The album features a collaboration with Stefani on “Hangin’ On.”
Shelton is also making his return to television, partnering with “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan on “The Road,” set to air on CBS in fall 2025.
His life offstage is grounded by family and home. Shelton spends time on his Oklahoma farm with Stefani and her three sons, and he has shared glimpses of country life, from tending corn to riding tractors.
At the 2025 American Music Awards, Shelton and Stefani performed via a pre-recorded segment, drawing attention from fans who had expected a live performance. Shelton responded that they performed “when the show asked us to,” keeping his comment brief.
