Billy Duffy

Billy Duffy has been a prominent figure in the music industry since 1979, best known for his role as guitarist for the band The Cult. The band's debut album, "Dreamtime," was released in 1984, followed by "Love" in 1985, which featured the hit "She Sells Sanctuary." A significant shift in The Cult's sound occurred with the 1987 album "Electric," where Duffy's contributions played a key role in evolving their musical style to metal-blues. In 2001, The Cult performed at Atlanta's Music Midtown Festival, captivating an audience of over 60,000 attendees.

Throughout his career, Duffy has consistently demonstrated his versatility and creativity as a musician. In 2004, he formed the covers band Cardboard Vampyres, and later in 2006, he introduced his new band, Circus Diablo, with a debut album. The same year, The Cult reformed and toured extensively in the US and Europe. One of The Cult's notable achievements during this period was the release of their album "Beyond Good and Evil" under a new recording contract with Atlantic Records. The single "Rise" from this album achieved significant success, holding the No. 3 spot for 6 weeks on the mainstream rock chart.

Despite his musical prowess, Duffy's influence extends beyond the stage. He appeared in the unreleased film "Sin-Jin Smyth" and the TV series "Married to Rock" in 2010. In 2007, he served as a judge on Bodog Music's Battle of the Bands. His contributions to the music industry were further recognized in January 2013 when Gretsch introduced the Billy Duffy White Falcon G7593T guitar, a nod to his main instrument, a mid-1970s Gretsch White Falcon. Duffy's life and career were also portrayed in the 2017 feature film "England Is Mine," a biopic about the early years of Morrissey.
