Ben Aldridge

Ben Aldridge is a bestselling author and international keynote speaker whose work explores resilience, mental health and the practical wisdom of ancient philosophy. Aldridge helps teams and individuals build resilience by getting comfortable with being uncomfortable and by applying ancient practices as practical training for modern life.

Aldridge’s talks are built around a simple idea: people become more resilient by choosing discomfort on purpose, as training, so they are better prepared when life gets hard. The ancient Greeks called this askesis, and discovering the practice transformed Aldridge’s life.

After experiencing severe panic attacks and debilitating anxiety, Aldridge began searching for practical ways to rebuild his confidence. Inspired by Stoic and Cynic philosophy, he started deliberately stepping outside his comfort zone through a series of often strange and entertaining challenges. These included ice baths, marathons, triathlons, mountaineering, stunt driving, sleeping in strange places and deliberately embarrassing himself in public by telling terrible dad jokes to strangers and walking a pet banana in the spirit of Diogenes the Cynic.

What began as a personal experiment became a practical framework for building resilience. Aldridge combines ancient philosophy, modern psychology and lived experience to deliver keynote talks that are thought-provoking, practical and entertaining. Aldridge has spoken for organizations including Microsoft, the NHS, Heathrow, Capital One, Credit Suisse and Cadent Gas, as well as schools, universities and festivals in the U.K. and internationally. His audiences range from intimate leadership workshops to theaters of more than 2,000 people.
