Aulani Wilhelm

Aulani Wilhelm is Chief Executive Officer of Nia Tero, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting Indigenous peoples in protecting and stewarding their lands, waters, and cultures. She leads the organization’s global strategy, fostering partnerships that empower Indigenous communities to safeguard their territories and preserve biodiversity for future generations.

Wilhelm is Kanaka Ōiwi (Native Hawaiian), born and raised in the Hawaiian Islands. She has decades of experience working with Indigenous communities and is recognized for her leadership at the intersection of Indigenous stewardship, conservation, and environmental justice.

Under Wilhelm’s leadership, Nia Tero advances initiatives that combine policy advocacy, sustainable development, and community-driven conservation, ensuring Indigenous voices are central to global environmental decision-making. She has been instrumental in developing programs that promote land rights, cultural preservation, and climate resilience while leveraging innovative approaches to conservation and stewardship.

Prior to joining Nia Tero, Wilhelm held leadership roles in nonprofit management and Indigenous advocacy, focusing on initiatives that strengthen Indigenous governance, environmental protection, and social equity. She is recognized for her commitment to collaborative leadership and creating lasting impact for Indigenous communities worldwide.
